Who records this, where the data comes from, and what we deliberately leave out.

Dogs on Film records which dogs appear in which films — the breed, and the size of the part. It exists because that information is scattered across trivia pages and forum threads, and nobody keeps it in one place.

What we record

For each film: the dogs that appear, the breed of each one where it can be established, and whether the part was major or supporting. Where a breed genuinely cannot be established we say so rather than guessing.

Where the data comes from

Film titles, years, posters, genres and runtimes come from TMDB. Breed photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and are credited individually with each image. The dog records themselves are written by contributors and checked by a moderator before they appear.

Contributing

A future phase will add optional accounts, so that anyone can add a film, add a missing dog to a film already listed, or suggest a correction to an existing record. Every submission will be reviewed by a moderator before it appears.

What this site is not

It is not a review site, not a rating system, and not a guide to whether a film is upsetting to watch. There are no synopses and no plot descriptions.

This website uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB. themoviedb.org. Film titles, years, genres, runtimes and poster artwork come from The Movie Database. Dog records are written and reviewed by Dogs on Film.

Breed photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and are credited individually, with source, creator and licence, on each breed page.
